Kiehl's | The Brand That Cleared My Skin

00:31

You know the name, you've seen stores open left-right-centre with tastefully retro decor and brick walls but do you really know Kiehl's? We all know them as the skincare brand that actually lets you try out their products for free without any awkward side-eyeing from their promoters, which is already a huge plus on its own, but their skincare is also all-natural and very easily absorbed by the skin.

They're like the Starbucks of skincare. Customer comes first and all that good stuff.

It's reasonable to be nervous your first time at Kiehl's. Questions like: "Really? I wouldn't be pressured to buy anything?" and "Will I actually be told what's best for my skin and not what's best for the sales-assistant's commission?" will be running through your mind for sure but rest assured, as long as you're served by the right person, you'll be absolutely fine!

Speaking of "The Right Person", this is my  Right Person. He is Deric Foo, the Perak-ian Senior KCR of the flagship store in Pavilion, KL, and I trust him with my life after he single-handedly cleared up my skin (with the help of Mr Kiehl's of course!).

Before I went into his store, I was subjected to the cruel game of being recommended the most expensive acne-clearing serums and hyrdogel moisturisers and ultra-high-intensive-nantarakantara all for the sake of bloating up the promoter's paycheck. When I dejectedly walked into Kiehl's that fine day, the most suitable metaphor of me would be a distrustful wounded dog who bit back at any hand that tried to help it.

Contrary to what I thought, he didn't lead me to the top-sellers or recommend me a 7-step skincare regime. No! On the contrary, he took one good look at my face, asked some questions about my skin-type (does it get oily when it's hot, is it tight after I wash it, simple stuff) and proceeded to fill up a little paper packet with samples just for me.

What I got were packets of calendula toner and oil-free gel moisturiser for daily care and a few samples of the overnight hydrating masque as a weekly pick-me-up. He then taught me how to use the products, a real-live demo of how to apply the toner and even how to pat on the moisturiser (as opposed to spreading it). When I asked whether I needed any other serums, he said no, my skin would become overnourished and that wouldn't be good at all.

Back then, I felt that that was a good sign. He was treating my skin with as much care as I would myself.

I can actually say that the method of application does matter. My brother was recommended that he pat on his toner while I was advised to wet a cotton pad with it and then 'wipe' at my skin and both of us have really benefited from his advice. Deric has been in skincare for 4 years now and let me tell you, he knows skin!

However, sadly, I had struck gold with him as when I went to other outlets to restock on my products, the on-floor promoters didn't seem to be as well-versed and knowledgeable as Deric was. Even when compared to those based in London, he was still the best.

Thus, he became the go-to man when it came to any skin questions and I think it's safe to say he's become a sort of family friend to us as my mother and father exclusively buy from him as well.

If you can, give the Pavilion branch a visit, it's right across the atrium, opposite of the valet parking. If you're entering from the main entrance, go down the large flight of stairs and Kiehl's will be at your direct left, just walk around the corner, you won't miss it!

Be sure to give the branch a call to check whether Deric is in if you're in need of a detailed consultation from him but if it's his off-day, you could always trust the customer favourites and opt for something on the acclaimed shelf of ranked products.

Thank you, Deric! You saved my acne-filled skin and made it so much more manageable. My forehead is as smooth as smooth can be and I didn't even think that was possible anymore!

Now all that's left to tend to is the hormonal spots on my chin and I'm home-free!

    1. Kiehl's actually has very desirable products - natural ingredients, effective and very gentle to the skin - Deric simply levelled the playing field with the other brands by being a very exceptional skincare advisor. I'd definitely recommend looking for him if you have any queries or gripes about skin! He's fantastic!

  9. May I know what kind of product that you use?
There's Khiel's store near my house in my country but as long as I know they are expensive products so I'm afraid I'll end up buy more than 2 products
Btw, how bad your skin was? Is it possible to remove redness or black scar left of acne with that product?

    Sorry for my bad english
    Thanks a lot
